THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT - CHAPTER 5

RETURN OF THE MANDALORIAN

 Enter the Mandalorian

Chapter 5 of The Book of Boba Fett took an exciting turn with the return of the Mandalorian in this weeks episode. In this unexpected twist in the storytelling of the Boba Fett series, the story shifted focus to the star of The Mandalorian series, Din Djarin, otherwise known as Mando. While the action behind the scenes of The Book of Boba Fett is heating up with war preparations, this shift to Din Djarin neatly ties up the threads of The Mandalorian season 2. Let's take a closer look.

Finding the Covert

Mandalorian Vs Paz Vizsla

The episode opens with an impressive fight scene while Mando is in pursuit of a bounty. He takes the severed head of his bounty and uses it to barter for the information he needs to find the covert, his fellow Mandalorians. He locates them on a space station named Glavis. Mando then battles Paz Vizsla (voiced by Jon Favreau) over a claim for the Darksaber, the sacred blade of the Mandalorians, which he won from Moff Gideon at the end of season 2. Mando defeats Paz Vizsla but reveals that he took his helmet off, a major violation of the Mandalorian religion (the Children of the Watch). To remedy the grievous transgression and be accepted by the Mandalorians, Din is instructed to go through a spiritual cleansing in the waters of the ritual cave under Mandalore. This presents an interesting problem he will have to circumvent in The Mandalorian as the Imperialists have decimated the area.

A Not-So-New Spacecraft

N-1 Starfighter

Mando leaves the space station and makes his way to the center of the action, Tatooine. He pays a visit to Peli Moto, who has found a vintage Naboo N-1 Starfighter for him. The one-person vehicle may not be what he was looking for, but the starfighter is packed with speed and agility, which Din displays in a thrilling test flight. The speed of the starfighter is so impressive that when Mando hits full-throttle on the engine, a bewildered officer who pulled him over for speeding mistakes the craft's speed for hyperdrive. After the intensity of the Boba Fett series, the scenes featuring Mando are a fun intermission to the storytelling, creating anticipation for what comes next.

Fennec pays a Visit

Fennec finds Mandalorian

Upon returning to Peli's yard from his space excursion, a surprised Din finds a determined Fennec Shand waiting for him, ready to ask him for his help in Boba's upcoming battle for Tatooine. The action is heating up on Tatooine, and Boba's leadership capabilities are going to be put to the test. Unpacking what Mando has been up to allows the show's writers to include him in the upcoming action in the series. This episode was the opportune moment to tie up the loose ends of season 2 of The Mandalorian in preparation for the next season.

While the Mandalorian made an unexpected appearance for this week's episode of The Book of Boba Fett, it offered an exhilarating segue into season 3 of The Mandalorian. It presented a great lead-up to the tension Boba and friends will be entangled in the coming episodes.
